So they use the assist only on the rimmed cartridges..... OK..

But the new bolts are the same as the one on the top in my pic?

Here you go Bob. It is the silver square thingy on the bottom just before the chamber.



Thanks Furhunter... After your dicription I now remember all of the hullabaloo over people converting there M38's to shoot the MkIV length cases and Cooper freaking out over it because he didn't feel it was safe so he did the bolt lug mods. As you can see my M38's were pre mod's.

The M38 17AH I just sold was built in 2010... it didn't have one of these on it.

well that explains it, it being my 38's have all been repeater, never seen that set up.

i just bought a mod. 38 in 22 hornet a month ago and it has the device in the floor plate,it was made jan. 2010. it is single shot

i have it now and it does have the same thing,you must have overlooked it,shoots good but a little sear adjustment was in order.
