Default 25 gr Hornady HP loads

Can anyone please suggest some good loads for this bullet in a 17 Fireball

The platform is a Ruger #1 with a 1:8 Lilja barrel.

EDIT:I have not heard really good things about the 25 gr V-Max as it relates to use on coyotes. The Kindr bullets are no longer available, and, Berger has really mixed reviews. I know Chan is supposed to have some really great stuff and I intend to contact him.

Thanks in advance.

I use 18.5 gr benchmark, WSR or CCI 400, in my Sako .17 Mack IV (fireball), with both the 25 Hornardy HP and v-max.
I shot one deer (yearling fallow deer), and several goats with the 25 HP, 8-10" penetration.

Default 17 MIV load

My formula was 19.1 gr of H335 with Rem 7 1/2 primers for the 25 gr Hornady HP. Only 3750 fps out of my gun during the summer - very safe. Could go to 19.3 gr in the cool weather of Spring.

Note: This using very old H335. Not sure what the new formulation would be like.

Thanks guys.

It seems 3750 is the velocity bench mark with the 25 gr bullets. Is that a good accuracy load or the load worked up for both accuracy and pressure ?

I have some load data from Reed with 26 and 30 gr bullets but no velocity was specified. I am obviously concerned with terminal performance at my yardage but like many want the accuracy also. I realize with these "little devils" a tenth of a gr can make a big difference.

Thanks for the info so far.

very similar to the recipe Chucks listed, 19.0 H335 with Rem. 7 1/2 primer with the Hornady 25 hp. I loaded to this load for accuracy and been using it to shoot prairie dogs, mostly because the Hornady bullets are so cheap. I believe it would work just fine on coyotes, but I've not tried it because I have a .17 Rem. and .17/204 that I use on them.
