I think I am going to hold out for some IMR 4320, H4895, or TAC, whichever I find first. So far haven't been able to find any of them. I really want to try the TAC because I want to do some load work up for the .223 with it as well. I didn't see any load data for 8208 in the berger manual. Suppose I could used hodgdon data and go from there. How much are you guys running w/ 8208XBR in yours?

I played with all the powders mentioned here- Varget, H4895, Imr 4198 etc. Got OK groups - 1" and little better, then I tried VV135 and wow in the .2's with max load and 25 gr Hornady with good velocity also. Never looked back after that ! Shooting a Cooper 38 that was rebarreled with Shilen stainless 1/9.

I have thought about a .222 based wildcat using the model 38 but didn't know how much of an issue the longer case would be in this short action. Thanks,

Using my CZ 527 17 Rem glass bedded, floated and trigger job. I can only speak for ADI 2208 which is your Varget powder. Using Rem 7 1/2 primers 25g Hornady Vmax seated long with 23g - 23.5g of powder shooting in the 0.4" - 0.5" @ 100 metres.
The 25g Hornady HP using 22.8g is also excellent but the projectiles are non existent here at the moment and I am just about out of them. 20g Vmax seated long, best results 23.2 - 23.6 everything under 0.4 - 0.5" @ 100 metres with very good results all the way across the powder charge range. All shot of a bi-pod and rear bag, the varget is well worth a try for sure. I have only started load development with this rifle two weeks ago, but incredibly accurate thus far. Interesting to not that groups shrunk by about 0.2 -0.3 after bedding, floating and trigger job. I will try some 8208 and some ADI 2207 along the way at some stage but for now very happy with the 2208/Varget. |

I also have a cz 527 in 17 rem and i have had good accuracy with 27.5 of win 760 with cci br4 primers and rem brass. i was using a woodchuck den 25gr. hp and i also got the load to shoot well with berger 25 gr. fbhp. this is a 1/2" load or better with a five shot group @3900fps but thats when its colder out. if you use this load when its summer you'll have pressure signs and possibly blow primers.

.17Rem and RE#15
I found I had tested Reloader #15- short test of only 2 starting, slow loads. I do not know WHY I stopped at only these two loads and you will see why.
Factory CZ.17Rem barrel. 21.0gr. Re#15 CC1 BR4 - 5 - 1.266" - 4 in .669" @3,212fps 21.5gr. Re#15 CCI BR4 - 5 - 0.545" - 4 in .298" @ 3,457fps Both groups 25gr. Hornady factory Moly coated. No OAL listed.

powder help
H322 and AA2015 start off at 21.0g and go up .5g at a time. You should hit pay dirt around 21.5-22.5g, tiny groups.

Mistake, I do have Cooper 38's but the 17 rem is in a 21. It was originally a .223 and I made it into a switch barrel. Have the original .223 barrel 1/12 twist, .223 AI 1/8 twist, and 17 rem 1/9 twist -shilen stainless barrels. They all shoot really good.

With 25gr. Nagels I run 23.9gr. of 8208. I would back off from that some as my Lilja barrel likes stouter loads than my Rem. does. |
