I've had caribou...a close cousin. The meat was excellent. Had a sweet flavor and was very tender.

Deer hunting
Caribou are about the same, good eating, they are fun, but easy to hunt.. Cold and wind is the worst part, many times while out after them.. Bill K

There was a video doing the rounds last year showing a hunter shoot 6 reindeer and when it zoomed in it showed a very p.... off Santa with a sleigh without power. Ho ho ho.

My wife and I went on a Scandinavian tour a few years ago and a number of us on the tour ate at a fancy Norwegian restaurant where we had reindeer. Most of those eating there thought the reindeer steaks, which appeared to be back straps, were real good, but I thought back straps from the does (not bucks) I shoot in Iowa are much better. --- And I don't think they are as good as a good beef steak.

Samey same.
Up here in AK there are a few places where you can hunt them . They are just domesticated caribou. The only difference is you usually have to pay the native association a fee for a tag. I took a bunch off St Paul island over the years. Excellent eating, I really enjoyed it. Like any other game meat how you care for it will determine how good it is. |
