Default 6.5 bullets

I know there are a couple of offerings out there such as the Sierra 85gr and the Speer 90gr and the 95gr vmax but the question is-

Does anyone make a smaller bullet for 6.5 like 70-75grs?

Berger made a small run of 85 grain FB 6.5 several years ago. Guess there wasn't any interest, they are gone.

Sierra makes an 85gr HP. I wish someone would make them down to 70-75gr to give the round a wider spectrum to what it already has..

The problem is short jackets, nobody makes them. Berger made a small run for the 85s, then quit. I know a fellow in OH that has dies, but can't find short jackets.

It only takes one extra die to pinch trim the jacket to your desired length. They may not be as thin at the mouth though. Depending on your use, you could expand a 6mm jacket while seating the core with the right punch. I've done that using 30 cal jackets for 8mm bullets. It works reasonably well and accuracy was faily good, but not match grade for sure.

Seeing as the lowest commercial 6.5 bullet is 85gr, how low do you think is possible?

6mm go from 55-107 so I wonder if its possible for 6.5 to go as low as 55gr or what determines the lowest grain bullet other than popular demand?

Also, if I was able to have custom 70 gr 6.5 bullets made how would you work a load up for it as there is nothing in the books?

What about a bump die and then use 25ACP bullets?

I don't know what limits they have for making the bullets. Probably the shape of the point and the need to have some bearing surface for the case to hold onto.

If you had a lighter bullet you could start with the data for the lightest bullet you can find. Work up from there. If you have data for 85's then 70's should have less pressure with the same charge.
