20VT Rat Report Pt. II
Okay then, here's a few more pics from the recent rat shoot last week.
Our buddy Ramos refers to this as my 'special rifle', and for good reason. It's become my all-time favorite rat wacker, and has accounted for a few thousand ground squirrels in the years I've owned her. After owning and shooting almost every varmint rifle caliber imaginable, I've come to the conclusion that the 20VT is the perfect caliber for rats out to 500, and chucks to 350 yards to ensure one-shot kills. The 20VT rocks! Cooling her barrel between strings, while I'm scanning for Skippy.... It's just hard to ignore a really stupid squirrel that pops up 75 yards from your bench. A bit too far for a .22LR pistol shot (for me at least), and really too close for a CF rifle, but hey, WTH, right? We have "exit stage right" low angle liftoff! One more during a launch: The little 20VT launches the rats quite well, but for pure altitude, you just can't beat a .223 loaded with either 40gr or 50gr bullets.....spectacular launches. Now if we all can get some decent weather across the country, the rest of you guys can get out and have some field fun too. Remember to take the cameras!

I don't know of any caliber that is as much fun as the 20 VT. The accuracy is out standing and it hits with authority. The 17 fire ball does not match the terminal effect of the 20VT. I still like the 17 AH but it is not a 20 VT!
Great pictures and write up. Rider |

Great posts, as expected, Rick. Love the images of the ranch, brought back some great memories even if they were around 365 days ago, lol. Man, Skippy sure stands out in your images, got my trigger finger twitching, lol.
My trip fell apart today, my shooting partner had set the dates, but decided today he has too many commitments at the hay Dairy, we have 800+ vines coming Friday and we need to focus on watering them to get them caught up to the other 13,000 vines in growth. I never expected year 5 of retirement could have more conflicts than when I worked. If I don't get my lead ammo shot up this year, I might need to be more aggressive in finding a lead-ok state, wink wink. Keep up the good images, I may not have any to share this year Allen |
