Defensive Edge Rifles 204 Terminator in the works
I got the .20cal bug a few months ago and was originally just going to buy another CZ 527 Varmint but in 204 Ruger. Already having a brand new Rem 22-250 Varmint ADL I got on sale at Cabelas I thought about doing a semi custom 20-250ai but then I got to talking with the Carlocks at Defensive Edge Rifles and they told me about their 204 Terminator that they've been developing and having a passion for speed, the more they told me about it the more I was hooked.
The 204 Terminator is certainly not going to be something you take to a Pdog town and bang away all day. Not something anyone that shoots a hot rod anything doesn't already know, but even though the barrel life will likely not be much longer than 600-ish rounds, shooting the Berger 55 grainers at 4100fps and maybe even a little faster or the 40's at 4600+ sure will be a whole lot of fun. I can only imagine what this thing is going to do to a coyote let alone a rock chuck. Usually Defensive Edge Rifles has my builds done in 3-4 months but getting a barrel is going to take a little longer so I'm expecting the wait time to be a little longer on this build. |

Necked down 260Rem then improved to their proprietary shoulder angle and case taper. I believe it's a 35 degree shoulder but I don't recall exactly.

So basically a 308 necked to 20 cal with different shoulder angle..... That is going to be something

Like I said earlier, I thought about doing a 20-250 or 20-250 Improved because they're no slouch either, but I figured what the heck, why not have something a little different and even faster. One of the things that's really nice is they neck all the Lapua 260 Rem brass down and fireform it for me for a very reasonable fee. Knowing this gun will have a short barrel life anyway, that's a nice feature to have.
My original plan was to use a 26in tube but then I changed my mind and thought I wanted a 28in barrel since I won't be putting a brake on this one but now I'm back to the original idea of going with a 1-8tw 26in. tube. |

You might consider a slower twist. I know berger recommends an 8 twist but there are an awful lot of guys here running 9 twists and they are shooting mere mortal cartridges that aren't nearly that fast. I don't think it'll take too many rounds before you start blowing up bullets in mid air. Which is kinda fun the first time you do it but gets old quick.

I don't remember the twist of the barrel but trotter did a 20 caliber off the 220 swift. I'm guessing it may similar capacity and you could mimic that twist rate.

If you go by Berger's twist calculator a 9 twist only yields a marginal stability factor with the 55's, even launching them at 4100fps. I've heard of guys claims of shooting the 55's with a 9 twist in their 20-250's but the ones I've been able to verify have all had 8 twist barrels. I'm sticking with the 26in. 1-8tw Krieger on this build. |
